If you had a chance to read our recent book blog post, you know that here at Rise, we take education and continuing education pretty seriously. We are all continually learning.
It was a fun first for us then when we were contacted by Trevor Garrett Allen, a graphic design student at Seminole State College of Florida, to be shadowed by him for a class. Always up for a new experience, Lead Visual Designer Frank Candamil took the lead and scheduled Trevor to come in this past Wednesday.
Among the myriad of topics shared were the importance of scheduling (here at Rise we utilize JIRA to keep tasks up-to-date), maintaining communication with clients (specifically through the use of Basecamp, the communication software system of choice in the Rise office), and keeping a To Do system that made sense for him. Frank suggested TeuxDeux as a free solution.
“Because of you I can take necessary steps to reaching my goals as a graphic designer.”
In addition to day-to-day topics, Frank walked Trevor through the process of transitioning from a Style Guide to a Mood Board using the recently launched The Caregivers Guide website as an example.
We were pleased as punch to have Trevor shadow with us. As icing on the cake, we arrived to this message from Trevor this morning:
"I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your time spent showing me around the agency. You were all very nice and I felt welcomed. Your workspace is very warm and inviting. Because of you I can take necessary steps to reaching my goals as a graphic designer. I always thought I needed more web experience but now I know I need more web under my belt. Pat yourselves on the backs for teaching somebody something new.
Thanks again.
Trevor"
If every shadow experience is as pleasant as this one was, we cannot wait to dive in again! Thank you, Trevor, for being so delightful!
